Defect Classes are used to specify the defects qualitatively based on defect consequences. The defect classes are linked to defect types and used to analyse defects.

How to Define Defect Classes in SAP S4 HANA QM

You can define different classes based on defects such as minor defects, major defects, critical defects, etc., and categorize the defects into different catalog types.

You can create defect classes in SAP HANA QM by using the following navigation method

Step 1: Enter SAP T-code “SPRO” and enter to continue

Step 2: Click on “SAP Reference IMG

Step 3: Follow the IMG menu path Quality Management-Basic Data-Quality Planning-Catalog-Define Defect Classes.

Step 4: On change view “Defect Classes” overview screen, displays a list of standard defect classes. You can use the existing classes or you can create new defect classes as per the business requirements.

Click on the “New Entries” button to define new defect classes in SAP Hana System

Step 5: On new entries of defect classes creation screen, update the following details

  • Defect Class: Enter 2 digits key that identifies as defect class in SAP Hana system
  • Short text: Update the description for the new defect class
  • Quality Score: Update the quality score of a default class. The quality score will be calculated based on the equation: Quality Score = Quality score in defect class x characteristic weighting/sum total of all characteristic weightage
  • Defect class allowed: Check the box as the system enables to enter a defect class with defect codes
  • Next Function in results recording: Select the required field as per requirements from the list of Workflow links, Activate Q-notification, or No next function.

After updating the required details for defect classes, click on the save icon and save the details.

Successfully we have defined new defect classes A1 – Critical defect in the SAP Hana system.
