In this S4 Hana QM configuration step, you will define sampling types and rules for determining the sampling instruction.
The sample type defines the conditions to determine the sample size for each inspection characteristic. A difference is made based on
- 100% Inspection
- Fixed sample45
- % sample
- Sample recording to the sampling scheme
How to define inspection sample determination in SAP QM
The first step is to Define Sampling Types
You can define inspection sample determination in SAP Quality Management by using the following navigation method

Step 1: Execute transaction code “SPRO” and then select “SAP Reference IMG”
Step 2: Follow the SAP IMG Menu Path – Quality Management – Quality Planning – Basic Data – Sampling, SPC – and then execute IMG activity “Define Inspection Sample Determination”
Step 3: On the Select IMG Activity screen, click on “Define Sampling Types“.
Step 4: On the change view “Sampling Types” overview screen, click on “New Entries” to create new sampling types in the SAP Hana system.
You can use the existing sampling types or maintain new sampling types as per the business organization’s requirements.
Step 5: On the sampling types, new entries screen, update the following details
- Sample Type: Enter a Key that defines a sampling type in SAP S4 Hana QM
- Short text: Update the short text for sampling type
- Definition: Choose the required indicator to define a sample type. Here we are defining a Fixed sample type, so we have selected the indicator of “Fixed Sample.”
Click on the save icon to save the sampling types in SAP S4 HANA System.
Define rules for sample determination
Step 1: Go back to the IMG screen, and choose “Adapt Rules for Sample Determination”
Step 2: On change view, “Rules for Sample Determination“: the overview screen displays a list of standard sample determination rules. You can use these sample determination rules or define new rules as per requirements.
To define new rules for sample determination, click on the new entries button.
Step 3: On the New entries screen sample determination rules screen, update the following details
- Determination Rule: Enter a new key that defines a sample determination rule in SAP
- Short text: Update the short description for a new key
- Definition: Choose the required indication as per the determination rule
- Assignment of a function module: Assign an appropriate module
Click on the Save button and save the details.
Successfully we have defined inspection sample determination in SAP Hana QM.
