What is Storage Type in SAP

Storage Types in SAP S4Hana EWM are defined based on nature of storage type, type of storage type, high rack storage area, goods receipt zones, etc in warehouse. Warehouse can have many different storage types which can be used for stocking of products, packing of products, loading, etc.

The storage types that are available in Embedded EWM are as follows

  • Rack Storage
  • Bulk Storage
  • General storage area
  • Fix bin storage area
  • Work center
  • Yard storage, etc

Storage Types – Scenarios

  • Storage types are defined at warehouse level
  • A warehouse number is divided into various storage types
  • Each storage type maps a physical location in the warehouse where a product is placed for storage

How to define storage type in SAP S/4Hana

You can create storage types in SAP S/4Hana system by using the following configuration steps

IMG path: SPRO {Transaction Code} – IMG – SCM Extended Warehouse Management – Extended Warehouse Management{EWM} – Master Data – Define Storage Type.

Step 1: Execute transaction code “SPRO” in the SAP command field

Step 3: Follow the IMG path : – SCM Extended Warehouse Management – Extended Warehouse Management{EWM} – Master Data  and click on IMG Activity –  Define Storage Type.

Step 4: From change view storage type definition overview screen, click on new entries option to define the new storage type in SAP S4 Hana

Step 5: On new entries of Storage Type definition screen, update the following details

  • Warehouse No: Enter the embedded EWM warehouse
  • Storage Type: Enter 4 character key that identifies the storage type in SAP S/4Hana System. Also provide the description of storage type.

General: Update the general configuration settings for warehouse attributes as per requirements.

Define Storage Type in SAP S4Hana

After maintaining all the details for storage types in SAP S4Hana EWM, click on save option and save the details.
